Red Gate Farm Day Camp offers a special place where young campers, ages 6 to 12, can build their self-confidence while enjoying the pleasure of riding and developing a friendship with their camp horse.  We will run eight one-week sessions beginning June 20, 2020.

Campers will be assigned a horse that will be theirs for the whole week.  They will learn everything about horse care including basic grooming, saddling, even some horse psychology!  Each camper will take a riding lesson in the morning or afternoon.  Other camp activities will be going on for those not in a lesson.  These activities include arts and crafts, dutch oven cooking, on-the-ground horsey time games and gardening.  The team will come together again in the afternoon to prepare their horse to be turned out to pasture.  They will learn the parts, colors, markings, and different breeds of horses.  There will be instruction in show grooming, braiding, and horse leading techniques.  Campers will also learn how to tie-up a horse, place a saddle, arena etiquette and how to control the horse to walk and trot on command.

 

On the last day of every session, our campers get a chance to demonstrate their new riding skills with a horse show for friends and family!
