Jamie Smith - Owner and Head Trainer
Sammie Smith - Assistant Trainer
As horse barns and training programs go Red Gate Farm is unique.
For over 25 years, owner Jamie Smith has brought a personal passion that goes beyond mere sport. RGF takes pride in providing a special place where riders of all skills and levels can learn the life lessons that come with horsemanship in a close-knit, supportive and diverse community.
“The more time spent at the barn the better,” says Sammie, “The connection with the horse is vital. Spending time at the barn on Sundays, grooming and grazing your horse, is just as important as prepping for Medal Finals at a Class "A" show. It’s not about the ribbons. This sport is about being the best horse person you can be. If we aren’t doing it for the horse, why ride at all?”
A Boutique Approach
to Training
Our Training Programs specialize in developing top hunter/jumper and jumper riders at all levels.
Let's talk about what would work for you!
Jamie says, "I've been around horses for as long as I can remember. My passion, love, and respect for the horses combined with helping my students grow as riders and blossom as people is what drives me every day. It's both a calling and pure joy."
The Happy Horse
We know that a great riding experience requires a well-cared-for horse. It’s in our blood to make sure that all our equine friends receive the best of care at all times. That’s why RGF has a full grooming program, every stall comes with it’s own 24-hour turnout, and our arena has state-of-the-art silica footing and jumps.
... more practice
In general, a lesson is described as a period of time spent learning to improve one’s performance. For us, lessons are a time for our riders to realize their fullest potential through observation, communication and constant encouragement. And feeling darn good every time they enter a ring.
Practice makes
More than a Ribbon
A great round in a horse show class isn’t about how you placed or what color ribbon they gave you. It’s about how you and your partner proudly got it together for a few minutes and feeling the reward for all that hard work during training and lessons. You two know the deal and that’s all that matters. RGF is proud to pitch our tents at Class “A” horse shows all up and down the west coast, from Canada to Palm Springs. (and don't get us wrong... we bring home lots of ribbons.)

They Grow Up
So Fast
Nothing makes us happier than watching our young riders learn and excell through the years to become the respectful athletes and wonderful people we will always consider family. Our place is your place for as long as you want to stay.
Riding at Red Gate is my favorite thing in the world. It has given me so much confidence in the ring, but also at school and with friends. I’ve learned so much about how to take care of my horse during the winter and hot summers, when the vet visits, how to clean my tack and be a good horsewoman. Saturdays are my favorite because we jump fun courses, that challenge me and my horse to grow and learn.

Elisa
We've been at Red Gate Farm for seven years now and we've loved it all. From weekly lessons to international horse shows, our daughter has grown so much at RGF. She calls it her happy place. She's learned to be resilient and determined and always feels encouraged her her best self. The trainers know the horses really well but they know their riders even better, which comes from a close knit community that makes you feel like you have a family at the barn. - Blanca Barrio (Elisa's Mom)

You’ll also play fun games, make cool horsey crafts, and on the last day participate in a real horse show for friends and family!
